Rome — Italy’s Leone Film Group and Rai Cinema are linking up with Lionsgate on Mexico-set thriller “,” a follow-up of sorts to ’s “,” to be directed by Italian helmer with and attached to star. Under the agreement with Lionsgate, Rai Cinema will have a producer credit on the English-language pic now set to start shooting in coming weeks in New Mexico. Rai Cinema, which is the theatrical distribution arm of Italian pubcaster Rai, and Leone Film Group, a distributor which has an output deal with Lionsgate, will jointly handle theatrical distribution of “” in Italy. “We are proud to be contributing to an important Italian genre-movie director making a big international movie in the U.S. With A-list stars,” said Rai Cinema Managing Director Paolo Del Brocco.

I can’t speak on his Italian films, but the American ones are unavoidably cloying and sentimental in a way that must be accepted or ignored to find resonance. Despite being the one showered with praise, didn’t quite do enough for me. I appreciated the story and performances, but felt the artifice. For, however, I didn’t care.
The entire film proved one giant manipulative contrivance yet it unexpectedly hit me with depth and power just the same. So when the opportunity to watch his latest arrived, I was optimistic. It looked ripe for that same emotional catharsis and as such possessed the potential to also crash and burn magnificently. It’s reality lies somewhere in the middle.
